SC State Fair: Art through Ag building   Recently updated!

Last week, we went to the SC state fair with Brad’s aunt and cousin, and we met Sabrina and her daughter Faith there!

It was pretty crowded fitting three wheelchairs, four people, and a dog into our van. We were especially squished in the backseat where Felix’s carrier takes up a lot of room! And to top it off, our tire pressure was low so we had to stop at a gas station and fill a tire with air! Brad’s aunt was the only one who could get out of the car, but she couldn’t read the machine, so there was a lot of helpful shouting back and forth about the whole thing. Always an adventure with us!

We ended up making it to the fair just as it opened. We got a wonderful spot with an access aisle next to it so we could easily open the ramp for the van and get out.

We were worried about security screening because Brad had to fill out a bunch of permission forms ahead of time and get clearance to bring his own food, bring his camera bags, and take pictures at the fair. But they just waved everyone through with no screening! I guess they figured on a day geared towards people with disabilities, that there wouldn’t be a lot of shenanigans going on.

We stopped off first in the art building where Brad got his camera out. He got some good pictures of us looking at the artwork that was on display. I am wearing purple, including a purple witch hat, and am in my wheelchair with a Japanese Chin blanket on my lap. Felix the Japanese Chin is also on my lap, wearing his galaxy harness. Brad’s cousin is being pushed in a wheelchair by Brad’s aunt.

They had some really neat artwork for sure!

Then we quickly went next door to some vendor area where they usually have a sand sculpture. But no sculpture this year! Instead they had lots of very overpriced candy! In one of the pictures, Brad’s cousin is very upset about that! So we left and headed over to the Ag building. Brad got some shots of us going across the crowded fairgrounds. One shot in front of a carousel, and another with Brad’s cousin smiling in front of a big sign advertising corn dogs.

Next we went into the agriculture building where they had a honey stand. They had lots of cool chapsticks for Brad, and Brad’s aunt and cousin got some honeycomb. It was really neat in the building with giant vegetables that people had grown, and all sorts of farms selling baked goods. Brad’s aunt and cousin got some peach bread, which seemed like it would be very yummy!

I walked Felix on the floor in this building, but not for long because I had forgotten his regular leash at home, and the back up one wasn’t working too well.

Brad also got a shot of Felix next to a turkey statue, and some pictures of us heading to the livestock barn. The livestock barn will be the next part of the fair you will read about in my next blog entry about the fair!
