Brad loves face jugs. Maybe even as much as I love guinea pigs! Face jugs are local folk art in the Carolinas. They are jugs (or other vessels) with scary/ugly clay 3D faces on them with interesting expressions (broken china is often used for teeth). We have an old face jug mug which we got when we were living in Chapel Hill at the North Carolina State Fair. Recently Brad went to a Piedmont pottery event and bought two small jugs.
So I figured I’d have a post dedicated to face jugs and not-often-enough-photographed Brad and Ollie!
The face jugs! From left to right a small brown face jug with an O for a mouth looking surprised. The middle one is a slightly larger face jug of green watermelon tint that looks like a troll. On the right is a face jug mug with a more intricate face with big heavy eyebrows.
Brad making a face that looks like he is cold with a cold-tinted picture of Brad, Ollie, and the face jugs.
Brad acting like he is hot (and mimicking the expression of the smallest jug) with Ollie and face jugs.
A neutral tinted picture with Brad smiling and holding his face jugs with Ollie’s head in the picture.

Oh, what a cool thing to have as a collection!! *smooches Ollie’s nose* Nice shots, Dr V, and yeah Brad, we don’t see you often–it’s great to have you guesting 😛
Ollie was just laying on the couch, and we set up the shot around him he he he!
Face jugs are neat. Ollie is adorable.
Thank you!
I love the Face Jugs, and I love even more seeing photos of you Brad! Awesome, thanks for sharing.
It’s rare he agrees to be in front of the camera!
Well done. It’s great to see the men in your family getting some screen time. Give them both hugs from their Auntie Jeanne
They say thank you, and Ollie licks your hand sloppily!
FINALLY!! We get to see the face behind the camera of everything you post on several venues. It is GREAT to be able to see you again Brad! I have missed you terribly. You look truly great in these pictures.
My favorite pic is the last one: “Neutral Tinted”. You look so very happy and I hope that is how you truly feel!
And how nice to see the Ollie-man again too. He looks good and happily relaxed behind Brad’s neck.
Thanks for sharing V…
It’s rare I can convince him to be in front of the camera!
